Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward), an extremely devout Christian police officer, travels alone to the island of Summerisle
in search of a missing girl. Soon after arriving he realizes he's stepped into a society of nature worshipping pagans
whose carefree and otherwordly pleasure seeking lifestyle runs contrary to all he believes in. Ruling over this island
and its people is the charismatic and powerful Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee). As luck would have it Sgt. Howie arrived on
the island just in time for the May Day festival when the community performs rituals in hope of obtaining a good harvest in
the next year. Little does Sgt. Howie know that Lord Summerisle has reserved a very important 'guest of honor' position for him
in the festival.
