Ruth Chandler heeft recentelijk twee jonge meisjes geadopteerd en neemt ze in haar huis, waar ze nog drie jongens heeft. Ruth is echter behoorlijk gestoord en besluit de meisjes discipline bij te brengen door ze flink te straffen. David, het 12 jarige buurjongetje, wordt verliefd op het oudste meisje en ziet op een dag hoe zij wordt gemarteld. Hij besluit om haar te helpen en haar daar weg te krijgen, maar moet dan wel eerst een volwassene vinden die zijn verhaal wil geloven.
