Synopsis:
This book originated with an elective sequence of two upper level
undergraduate Physics courses, which I initiated at Polytechnic University.
"Concepts of Nanotechnology"and "Techniques and Applications of
Nanotechnology" are taken in the spring of the junior year and the following
fall, and the students have a number of such sequences to choose from. I have
been pleased with the quality, diversity (of major discipline), interest, and
enthusiasm of the students who have taken the "Nano" sequence of courses, now
midway in the second cycle of offering. Electrical engineering, computer
engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering and chemical engineering
are typical majors for these students, which facilitates breaking the class
into interdisciplinary working groups who then prepare term papers and
presentations that explore more deeply topics of their choice within the
wealth of interesting topics in the area of nanotechnology.
