The movie is mainly about how luck (kismat) plays an important role is a person’s life. Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapoor) plays the role of a young man who has graduated with an architecture degree at top level in his college. But is having a difficult time with getting a job. He seems to be followed by some negative luck since every time something is about to go right, it ends up turning negative.

Then he meets, Hasina Bano Jaan (Juhi Chawla), who tells him that his luck is about to change, but does not give him insight into how. Upon this meeting, things in Raj’s life turn around in a positive way, he is able to convince builder Sanjeev Gill (Om Puri) to hire him and he ends up meeting Priya (Vidya Balan). Priya is a person who loves to live life to it’s fullest, and believes in giving your 100 percent to everything you do. All this is being considered by Raj as that he has found his luck.
