Dave Koz crosses a number of pop boundaries on this CD, bringing tunes associated with genres from Motown ( "I'll Be There" ) to New Country ( "The Dance" ) into the smooth jazz orbit while somehow managing to put a personal stamp on them all. His perky soprano sax blends beautifully with Luther Vandross on "Can't Let You Go," while he and Montell Jordan add new dimensions to the pure pop of Wham's "Careless Whisper." The collaborations continue with nice guest spots by Burt Bacharach, trumpeter Chris Botti, and David Benoit, while Koz does some compelling and innovative work with multiple overdubbed saxes on the pulsing Latin beat of "Cuban Hideaway." ~ Adam Rains
I was lucky enough to win an autographed copy of The Dance about 5 or so years ago when Dave was having contests weekly on his radio show. I kept emailing in the correct answeres every week, but never winning. I finally begged Dave to send me an autographed cd after telling him about my efforts and passion for him. The album in my opinion is his best. It is so uplifting and sexy. My favorite song is "You are me I am you" I love Bebe Winans vocals on The Dance. He is so talented and I hope Dave has him another cd in the future. Dave puts 100% effort into everything he does. His sweet character really comes through in his songs. It is beautiful to see the respect his has for his father and the compassion he has for the sick. I think he is a pretty good singer, too and I wish he had sung on this album like he did on Off the Beaten Path. Oh well. ~ puff
