Todo arranca cuando un año después del suicidio de su padre, Johnny Miller, su madre y su padastro se mudan a Palm Springs. Allí conoce a la enigmática Greta, al inquietante Cliff y a la inteligente Liza. Cliff y Greta deciden no contarle a Johnny que uno de los antiguos habitantes de su casa murió en ella en extrañas circunstancias.
