Normally i am not a huge fan of progrock but Amaseffer, haling from the cultural melting pot that is Israel, convinced me completely with their new album Slaves for Life, right from the First listening session. This is because the band appears highly creative, since while they make use of various stylistic influences from rock and world music, they also use samples and sounds to create an atmosphere that really brings the music alive. The album Slaves for Life is the first part in a trilogy that deals with the bible book Exodus, written by Moses, that deals with the time of slavery until the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt .
Since the songs are very exciting, epic and well composed with the use of supporting sounds, it is like you are listening to a film score. It will not be that much a surprise that Amaseffer has done this very professionally when you realize that they have delivered scores for film and computer games before, but still the end result on Slaves for Life remains very impressive. The mix of rock, metal and oriental world music is carried with force by the theatrical vocals from Mats Leven (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen). He does this with so much sense for drama that his voice perfectly fits the epic film score oriented character of this recording.
The vocals on this album are furthermore done by three Israelian guest-vocalists and Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), who delivered her extreme voice to the 12 minutes epos ‘Midian’. The Compositions of Amaseffer are very complicated and well done, with the various musical elements completely supporting the sphere and emotion that needs to be carried across to the listener. Slaves for Life does not get boring for a second. Slaves for Life is a monumental epic album which every fan of quality progrock music should get their hands on.
