I've been a great fan of Gustave's over the years - beginning in the mid-70's (Bach's 'Goldberg Variations' and several of Couperin Le Grand's Ordres from 'Pieces de Clavecin').
In my humble opinion, this is my favorite of all - he really hits his stride and maintains it all the way through. The particular harpsichord used on the recording is perfect for this composer - with its bright, clear notes, chords and runs.
I discovered Bohm's "Rigaudon" in a little book of harpsichord pieces - it utterly captivated me, and I wanted to play, and hear more. Bohm's melodies and harmonies are some of the most colorful you'll find anywhere - there's something very bouyant and joyous even in the suites/pieces in minor keys. It just clears my head and gives me back a piece of that old happy heart.
Another plus - on several pieces and one entire suite, Leonhardt plays a clavichord (of course you may need to turn up the volume). It's very interesting hearing this different, sometimes very subtle instrument, a quiet forerunner of the pianoforte.
Enjoy and Seed!!
