Aa Dekhe Zara is an amalgamation of modern day Panchtantra and erstwhile Sci Fi. While we still relished a Mr India where Anil Kapoor discovers the magical glasses his scientist dad created, Aa Dekhe Zara with the goodies its scientist grand dad delivers ends up in a two hour long paisa barbad.
Mr India happened way back in 1987. The theme was new and the performaces brilliant. Sri Devi's Hawa Hawai and Mogambo's Khush Hua with the creative genius of maverick director Shekha Kapur, made Mr India a Bollywood masterpiece. But that was then. Today, audience have different predilections and sensibilities. Experimental cinema is welcomed albeit it is well-crafted and Aa Dekhe Zara is neither.
A scientist grandad bequeaths his super camera to his grandson on his death and advises him to also use it sagaciously. But the almost penurious grandson decides to use the kick ass device to win lotteries, horse races and cricket bets. Through the camera he makes his rags to riches story come true. But as any Bollywood movie, the bad guys get to know about the camera and Ray (Neil Nitin Mukesh) runs amock to protect himself against his enemies and also what seems as imminent death.
The ending flings no surprises either and the wait for something exciting to happen is never sated. Neil Nitin Mukesh is unimpressive and there isn't even a good song that one can remember Biapasha Basu for.
